The Campaign
The Airborne Arctic Stratospheric Expedition (AASE) was a NASA field investigation that focused on ozone depletion in the Arctic and the formation of polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs). AASE had two deployments across the Arctic during the winter and spring of 1988 and 1991. NASA's DC-8 and ER-2 aircraft were equipped with remote and in situ instruments to collect measurements of ozone and the properties of PCSs. Complementary balloon measurements were also collected. AASE was funded through NASA's Upper Atmospheric Research Program.
