The Campaign
The Amazonian Aerosol Characterization Experiment (AMAZE-08) was a NASA field investigation focused on the formation, transformations, and cloud-forming properties of biogenic aerosol particles, as well as their impact on cloud activation and climate. AMAZE-08 consisted of a single deployment from February to March 2008 during the wet season in the central Amazon Basin. Ground-based measurements of aerosols, trace gases, clouds, and meteorological parameters were collected at tower and field sites. Additional measurements were collected at an AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET) site. AMAZE-08 was supported by NASA, the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Brazil LBA Millennium Institute, the Max Planck Society, the Brazil Large-Scale Biosphere Atmospheric Experiment, and the European Integrated Project on Aerosol Cloud Climate and Air Quality Interactions (EUCAARI).
