The Campaign

The Aeolus Calibration/Validation Test Flight Campaign (Aeolus Cal/Val) was a joint effort between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) to validate observations from the ESA Atmospheric Dynamics Mission-Aeolus (ADM-Aeolus) satellite. Aeolus Cal/Val had one deployment during April 2019 across the eastern Pacific Ocean. NASA DC-8 aircraft was equipped with Doppler Aerosol WiNd Lidar (DAWN) and High Altitude Lidar Observatory (HALO) to collect profile measurements of winds and aerosols. These measurements were used to help validate aerosol and wind profiles derived from ADM-Aeolus satellite observations.
