The Campaign

The BRomine, Ozone, and Mercury EXperiment (BROMEX) focused on the impact of Arctic sea ice reduction on bromine, ozone, and mercury in the atmosphere. BROMEX had one deployment over Alaska and its surrounding seas during the boreal spring of 2012. Airborne and ground-based measurements of gas concentration profiles were supplemented with satellite observations of snow and sea ice changes. BROMEX was funded through NASA’s Cryospheric Sciences Program and coordinated with activities during the 2012 deployment of Operation Ice Bridge.
