The Campaign
The Bromine, Ozone, and Mercury Experiment (BROMEX) studied how the reduction of Arctic sea ice affects bromine, ozone, and mercury in the atmosphere. BROMEX conducted one deployment over Alaska and nearby seas during the boreal spring of 2012. Measurements of gas concentration profiles from the air and ground were supplemented with satellite data on snow and sea ice changes. BROMEX was funded by NASA’s Cryospheric Sciences Program and coordinated with activities during the 2012 deployment of Operation Ice Bridge.
