The Campaign
The Convective Processes Experiment - Cabo Verde (CPEX-CV) was a NASA campaign focused on studying atmospheric dynamics and marine boundary layer properties in the tropical East Atlantic region. CPEX-CV included one deployment during the summer and fall of 2022 and operated from Sal Island, Cabo Verde. NASA’s DC-8 aircraft was equipped with several instruments, including the High Altitude Lidar Observatory (HALO), the High Altitude Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) Sounding Radiometer (HAMSR), the Doppler Aerosol WiND Lidar (DAWN), and the Advanced Vertical Atmospheric Profiling System (AVAPS), to measure tropospheric aerosols, winds, and precipitation. CPEX-CV was a follow-up to the CPEX - Aerosols & Winds (CPEX-AW) campaign held in September 2021 in St. Croix. CPEX-CV was funded through NASA’s Atmospheric and Weather Dynamics Program.
