The Campaign

The Development and Evaluation of satellite ValidatiOn Tools by Experimenters (DEVOTE) was a NASA field investigation that studied aerosols and clouds for satellite validation and improvement of satellite retrieval algorithms. DEVOTE consisted of one deployment during the boreal fall of 2011 across the eastern and southeastern United States. NASA UC-12 and B-200 aircraft were equipped with remote and in situ sensors to collect observations of aerosol microphysical and optical properties. Flights were coordinated with CALIPSO satellite overpasses and occurred over the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) ground sites for data validation. DEVOTE was partially funded through the Hands-On Project Experience (HOPE) initiative.
