The Campaign
The First International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP) Field Experiment (FIFE) was a field investigation that examined biosphere-atmosphere interactions and evaluated various remote sensing measurement techniques for satellite and model validation. FIFE involved two deployments in 1987 and 1989 across central Kansas. Several aircraft, including the NASA C-130 and University of Wyoming King Air, were used to collect measurements of vegetation properties and atmospheric parameters. Meteorological stations and stream flow gauges provided additional ground-based measurements. FIFE was funded by NASA's Biological Sciences Department.
