The Campaign
The First International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP) Field Experiment (FIFE) was a field investigation that studied biosphere-atmosphere processes and tested various remote sensing measurement techniques for satellite and model validation. FIFE consisted of two deployments in 1987 and 1989 across central Kansas. Several aircraft were utilized including the NASA C-130 and University of Wyoming King Air to collect measurements of vegetation properties and atmospheric parameters. Meteorological stations and stream flow gauges were used to provide complementary ground-based measurements. FIFE was funded through NASA's Biological Sciences Department.
