The Campaign
The Hurricane and Severe Storm Sentinel (HS3) was a NASA field investigation that aimed to better understand the physical processes that control hurricane intensification. HS3 consisted of three deployments from late summer to early fall 2012 to 2014 across the Gulf of Mexico and the Subtropical Atlantic Ocean. The main aircraft used were two Global Hawk Uncrewed Airborne Systems (UAS) that were equipped with remote sensors to collect various storm and environmental parameters. HS3 was one of the Earth Venture Suborbital (EVS) field investigations.
