The Campaign

The Hyperspectral Infrared Imager (HyspIRI) Airborne was a NASA campaign conducted to prepare a HyspIRI satellite mission to study the Earth’s ecosystems along with critical information on natural disasters on a global scale. HyspIRI Airborne consisted of 13 deployments across California and 2 deployments across Hawaii from 2013 to 2018. Multiple instruments were equipped on NASA’s ER-2 including the Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer - Classic (AVIRIS-C) and MODIS/ASTER Airborne Simulator (MASTER) to support the development and validation of satellite sensors. Then, the Hyperspectral Thermal Emission Spectrometer (HyTES) and the Portable Remote Imaging Spectrometer (PRISM) were also utilized to collect measurements during the 2018 deployments. HyspIRI Airborne was funded through NASA's Biological Diversity and Ecological Forecasting program.
