The Campaign
The Iowa Flood Studies (IFloodS) was a joint effort between NASA and the Iowa Flood Center to provide satellite validation for Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Mission rainfall data. IFloodS consisted of one deployment from April to June 2013 across portions of northeastern Iowa. Several ground radars, stream flow gauges, rain gauges, and disdrometers were deployed to measure precipitation characteristics such as rainfall rate and drop size distribution. Rainfall measurements were taken in conjunction with satellite overpasses to help assess the accuracy of satellite rainfall retrieval when used for flood forecasting. IFloodS was one of the NASA GPM Ground Validation (GV) Program investigations.
