The Campaign
The Integrated Precipitation and Hydrology Experiment (IPHEx) was a NASA campaign that focused on studying warm-season orographic precipitation over complex terrain. IPHEx consisted of one deployment over the southern Appalachian mountains during the boreal summer of 2014. NASA's ER-2 and the University of North Dakota's Citation aircraft were equipped with remote and in situ sensors to collect measurements of precipitation properties. Ground and balloon measurements of precipitation were also collected. IPHEx was part of the Global Precipitation Measurement Mission (GPM) Ground Validation (GV) program.
