The Campaign

The Oregon Transect Ecosystem Research (OTTER) project was a NASA-funded campaign to improve scientists' understanding of ecosystem functions in coniferous forests. OTTER involved three deployments from 1989 to 1991 across coniferous forests in Oregon. Several NASA aircraft, including the ER-2 and DC-8, were used for atmospheric sampling, while ground instrumentation and a truck boom conducted in situ sampling. Complementary model and satellite data were also collected.
