The Campaign

The Oregon Transect Ecosystem Research (OTTER) project was a NASA-funded campaign designed to provide scientists with a better understanding of ecosystem functions in coniferous forests. OTTER consisted of three deployments from 1989 to 1991 across coniferous forests in Oregon. Several NASA aircraft, including the ER-2 and DC-8, were used for atmospheric sampling while in-situ sampling was conducted by ground instrumentation and a truck boom. Complementary model and satellite observations were also collected.
