The Campaign

The POlarimeter Definition EXperiment (PODEX) was a NASA campaign commissioned in support of the Aerosol-Cloud-Ecosystem (ACE) satellite mission. The goal of PODEX was to further improve polarimeter design and their derived aerosol and cloud optical properties. The Airborne Multiangle SpectroPolarimetric Imager (AirMSPI), Research Scanning Polarimeter (RSP), and Passive Aerosol and Cloud Suite (PACS) polarimetric instruments were deployed on the ER-2 aircraft to take observations over California and its surrounding waters during the boreal winter of 2013. PODEX flights were also coordinated with measurements during the third deployment of the DISCOVER-AQ campaign for intercomparison.
