The Campaign
The POlarimeter Definition Experiment (PODEX) was a NASA campaign launched to support the Aerosol-Cloud-Ecosystem (ACE) satellite mission. The purpose of PODEX was to improve polarimeter design and the derived aerosol and cloud optical properties. The Airborne Multiangle SpectroPolarimetric Imager (AirMSPI), Research Scanning Polarimeter (RSP), and Passive Aerosol and Cloud Suite (PACS) polarimetric instruments were deployed on the ER-2 aircraft to observe California and nearby waters during the boreal winter of 2013. PODEX flights were also coordinated with measurements from the third deployment of the DISCOVER-AQ campaign for intercomparison.
