The Campaign

The Prototype Validation Exercise (PROVE) was a NASA field campaign that helped to validate observations from the ASTER, MISR, and MODIS instruments onboard the Terra satellite. PROVE consisted of one deployment over the Jornada Experimental Range near Las Cruces, New Mexico in May 1997. NASA ER-2 and other aircraft were utilized to collect remotely sensed measurements of leaf area index, canopy structure, surface reflectance, and radiation. PROVE was funded through NASA's Earth Observing System (EOS) Project Office and Terrestrial Ecology Program.
