The Campaign
The RADar Definition EXperiment (RADEX) campaign aimed to collect detailed measurements of aerosols, clouds, rainfall, and snowfall to improve the development of the Aerosol, Cloud, and Ecosystems (ACE) algorithm. RADEX conducted two deployments across the Southeastern United States and the Washington State Olympic Peninsula in summer 2014 and winter 2015. Airborne observations of clouds and precipitation were supplemented by three radars, polarimeters, microwave radiometers, and lidar. RADEX was part of the ACE Mission projects and coordinated with the OLYMPEX and IPHEX campaigns.
