The Campaign
The Surface Biology and Geology (SBG) High-Frequency Time Series (SHIFT) is a NASA investigation that aimed at collecting time series of airborne visible to shortwave infrared (VSWIR) imagery over terrestrial and coastal aquatic areas to support the SBG mission. SHIFT included one deployment from February to May 2024 in Santa Barbara County, California, and the Pacific Ocean. A week-long follow-up activity took place in September 2022. NASA’s Airborne Visible-Infrared Imaging Spectrometer - Next Generation (AVIRIS-NG) was used to gather weekly spectral imagery to monitor vegetation and land features. SHIFT was a collaborative effort led by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Nature Conservancy, and the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).
