The Campaign
The Stratospheric Tracers of Atmospheric Transport (STRAT) was a NASA field investigation that focused on studying the dynamical characteristics of long-lived tracers and atmospheric photochemistry. STRAT was based out of Moffett Federal Airfield in California and had 6 deployments over the Pacific Ocean from 1995-1996. The NASA ER-2 aircraft was equipped with various aerosol and gas sensors to collect measurements of chemical composition and concentration in the atmosphere. Complementary balloon and ground-based lidar measurements were also collected. STRAT was sponsored by NASA's Atmospheric Effect of Aviation Project (AEAP), Upper Atmosphere Research Project (UARP), and Atmospheric Chemistry Modeling and Analysis Program (ACMAP).
