The Campaign

The Western Diversity Time Series (WDTS) is an ongoing NASA field investigation focusing on observing California’s ecosystems and providing critical information on natural disasters through multispectral imagery. Since 2020, WDTS has had five deployments across Southern California during the boreal fall and spring. NASA’s ER-2 aircraft was equipped with remote sensors such as MODIS/ASTER Airborne Simulator (MASTER), Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS), Hyperspectral Thermal Emission Spectrometer (HyTES), and Pushbroom Imager for Cloud and Aerosol Research and Development (PICARD) to collect VIS-SWIR and TIR airborne imagery. WDTS is a continuation of the HyspIRI Airborne campaign from 2013-2018.
