The Mobile Integrated Profiling System (MIPS) is a ground-based mobile instrument suite operated by the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). It consists of several remote sensing instruments mounted on a trailer to collect profiles and vertical structures of winds, precipitation, and clouds. These instruments include: an X-band Profiling Radar (XPR), a Microwave Profiling Radiometer (MPR), a 915 MHz Wind Profiler, a ceilometer, and a Doppler Sodar. It also consists of several in situ meteorological sensors for surface measurements of temperature, pressure, relative humidity, and winds. MIPS is typically used for severe weather and boundary layer studies.
