The Mobile Integrated Profiling System (MIPS) is a ground-based mobile instrument suite operated by the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). It comprises several remote sensing instruments mounted on a trailer to gather profiles and vertical structures of winds, precipitation, and clouds. These instruments include an X-band Profiling Radar (XPR), a Microwave Profiling Radiometer (MPR), a 915 MHz Wind Profiler, a ceilometer, and a Doppler Sodar. It also features multiple in situ meteorological sensors for surface measurements of temperature, pressure, relative humidity, and winds. MIPS is mainly used for studies of severe weather and the boundary layer.
