The NO2-sonde is a balloon-borne instrument developed by the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI). It is a lightweight sensor (450 grams) attached to a meteorological balloon, designed to measure tropospheric nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentration profiles. The sensor operates at a wavelength of 425 nm and uses chemiluminescence to detect NO2. The NO2-sonde has a vertical resolution of 5 meters, a temporal resolution of 1 second, and a measurement range of 1 to 100 ppbv.
