Overview

The RRS Discovery is a multidisciplinary research vessel owned and operated by the National Oceanography Centre (NOC). It is equipped with various profiling instrumentation for seabed mapping and heavy machinery to support the deployment of water-based platforms such as autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and buoys. It can operate in remote and extreme oceanic environments up to a sea-state of 6. The RRS Discovery is typically used for seismic surveys, remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operations, clean seawater sampling, deep-water coring, and CTD and echosounder surveys.
