Overview

The Duke University Helicopter Observation Platform (HOP) is a Jet Ranger helicopter that was purchased by Duke University in 2005. The HOP can operate at slower speeds and fly at very low altitudes, making it an ideal platform to sample aerosols/trace gases, measure turbulence, and obtain atmospheric measurements in remote locations for long periods. It can carry up to 5 passengers and has a maximum operating weight of nearly 3,000 lbs.
