Overview

The Duke University Helicopter Observation Platform (HOP) is a Jet Ranger helicopter that Duke University acquired in 2005. The HOP can fly at low speeds and altitude, making it an ideal platform for sampling aerosols and trace gases, measuring turbulence, and collecting atmospheric data in remote areas for extended periods. It can hold up to 5 passengers and has a maximum takeoff weight of nearly 3,000 lbs.
