Overview

The Nighttime Fire Observations eXperiment (NightFOX) is an uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) built by Black Swift Technologies and operated by NOAA. NightFOX primarily investigates wildfires and is used to develop the wildfire UAS Observation Systems (UASOS). It includes both in situ and remote sensing instruments to measure fire plumes, perimeters, and radiative power. NightFOX can stay airborne for approximately 2 hours, has a maximum range of 110 km, and a flight ceiling of 6 km above sea level.
