Overview

The R/V Valdivia was an oceanographic research vessel built by AG “Wesser” Werk Seeback in Bremerhaven and operated by the Institut für Meereskunde der Universität Hamburg. It was equipped with water-level recorders to map and measure temperature and salinity at various depths. It was used during NASA’s First ISCCP Regional Experiment (FIRE) - Atlantic Stratocumulus Transition Experiment (ASTEX) campaign to collect measurements of cloud properties near the Azores Islands.
